About

I am an educator who writes. I write about leadership, learning, and working together to make a better world. My words are often drawn from my background as a classroom teacher, school superintendent and educational trainer. But they are just as likely to be shaped by my faith and the conviction that God’s love for me compels me to love the people he has placed in my pathway. What I have to say is learned and formed in dialog with my best teachers, the leaders who taught me and colleagues who generously share their wisdom with me.

Faith for me is like the chocolate ribbon that runs through Fudge Ripple Ice Cream. Much of what I write about may be the vanilla base of this delicious treat. But every bite size piece of my life whether professional or personal is entwined with a ribbon of faith that gives it richness and flavor.

I believe that living a life of faith, fully embedded into daily practice brings purpose, beauty, and hope. I write to encourage myself and to share perspectives with you that will make this daily practice come alive for both of us.

Sprinkled throughout my writing are glimpses of the practical lessons I’ve learned as a wife, mother and grandmother. Life is never confined to just the kitchen, the classroom, or the boardroom.

Let’s get acquainted. I live in the north central region of Washington State next to the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River. In addition to enjoying the breathtaking beauty of my hometown, I enjoy cooking, hiking, spoiling my grandchildren (two beautiful young ladies) and coffee dates with friends. I graduated high school in Idaho, earned a bachelor’s degree in Oklahoma, and finished my master’s and Doctor of Education degrees in Washington.

I chose my doctoral work in Educational Leadership because I love to study leadership and good leaders. I am convinced that anyone can be a leader by intentionally choosing actions that build others up and focus on solutions to the conflicts that divide us.

Leaders are lifelong learners, ready to follow and ready to lead as the situation demands. Join me as we learn together to make a difference where God has placed us.
